Trail Description

Walnut Springs Trail is a mostly grass path, descending to an old logging road marred with rocky areas. The trail winds for 2.6 miles taking nearly 2 hours to hike. It courses through a maple woods and along a scenic ravine. Considered one of the most interesting trails within the park, it crossing a creek many times in a river bottom punctuated with enormous mature walnut trees. As the trail nears the park office, a pine plantation is viewed then opens to grassland. The varied habitats result in diverse wildlife viewing opportunities.

Directions: From Prairie Du Chien, WI, Travel six miles south along Hwy. 18, then turn west on County C and travel another six miles. The trail is located in the eastern area of the park.
