This portion of the McKenzie River Recreation Trail is more challenging, due to the section of rugged and steep terrain in some portions. This is more difficult 11 mile trail at an elevation of 2,500 feet. The trail passes through both remote lava flows and old-growth forest, as well as developed recreational area, including magnificent, highly visited waterfalls, and popular Clear Lake Resort.
The Clear Lake-Sahalie Fall area attracts thousands of visitors each year. Trails are crowded with forest users having a wide range of ages, physical abilities, and outdoor experiences. The trail ends at the uppermost trailhead between Fish lake and Clear Lake, at the historic Santiam Wagon Road.
Directions: From Eugene, Travel 50 miles east on Hwy. #126 and the trailhead is approximately past McKenzie Bridge. There are numerous opportunities to access this trail along Hwy. #126. The lower access is near Trail Bridge Reservoir, where the trail meets Forest Road 2672-655.
