Description

A short, rugged hike up a cliff to the summit of Champlain Mountain. One can see an excellent view of Frenchman Bay, as well as the endangered peregrine falcon. The Precipice is an exhilarating but challenging climb, even more difficult during wet weather or in ice and snow. Dogs are not allowed, and the hike is difficult for children.

Directions

From Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, drive south on MaineRoute 3 for about 2 miles and turn right into the Sieur de Monts entrance to Acadia National Park. Pay the entrance fee, whichallows you access to the park for seven days.

Highlights

This exhilarating climb provides an excellent view of Frenchman Bay, as well as the opportunity to see endangered peregrine falcons.
