Description

A loop trail that serves also as a self-guiding interpretive trail. It leads from the picnic area parking lot through a small stand of mixed pine/hardwoods overstory- with Teaberry, Blueberry and Huckleberry understory. Down through rugged cliff lines to the ever-flowing waterfalls of Rock Bridge fork- which shortly flows into Swift Camp Creek. Here there are lush cove hemlocks, White Pines, and other assorted species with moist heath rhododendron understory and various shrubs of Witchhazel, Sourwood and Service Berry.

Directions

Turn South off the Mountain Parkway at Slide. KY to Highway It. Follow Hwy. 11 North 0.1 mile to Hwy. 15. Travel East on Hwy. 15 7.0 miles to Hwy. 715 on the left and continue on Hwy. 715 0.3 mile to the Rock Bridge Road (FSR #24) to the right. Follow the Rock Bridge Road 3 miles to its terminus in Rock Bridge Picnic Area.

Highlights

The trail visits an interesting historic splash-dam site on Trail #219, Drake's grist mill site, and a most spectacular sandstone conglomerate arch which spans Swift Creek. The are numerous rockshelters along the trail, and scenic-overlooks.
