Trail Description

The Red Fir Nature Trail (12E40) is located on the dirt road leading to Mills Peak Lookout. An easy 0.5 mile hike at an elevation of 7,100 feet, the trail passes informative signs interpreting the ecosystem occurring in a red fir stand.

Directions: From Graeagle, Travel south on Hwy. #89 for approximately 1.5 miles and turn right onto Primary Forest Route #24. Travel this road for approximately 7 miles and turn right onto County Road #721. Follow this road for approximately 1 mile and turn left onto the road to Mills Peak. The trailhead for the Red Fir Nature Trail is on this road. Trailhead T.21N., R.12E., Section 10.

This is an easy trail that leads past informative signs that interpret the changes occurring in a red fir stand.

Directions

The trailhead is located on the dirt road leading to Mills Peak Lookout. Look for a sign to Mills Peak located on the east side of Gold Lake Road just south of Gold Lake. Continue your drive to the lookout for a fantastic view.
