Description

Pedestal Rocks Scenic Area, part of Ozark National Forest, lives up to is name and then some. This truly scenic area offers far reaching views, as well as up close looks at arches, overhangs, rock houses, waterfalls, and the Pedestal Rocks, tall rock spires capped with level pedestals. Start the first of two loops, taking the Pedestal Rocks Loop past Arch Rock before opening onto a bluff-line that offers extensive views and looks down into the fissured rock below. The Pedestal Rocks then appear.Complete the first loop, then join the Kings Bluff Loop, which offers more views that seem to go on for forever. Curve past a small waterfall before reaching the actual Kings Bluff, which is an extensive rock slab overlooking a creek below. Another waterfall drops over a rock rim at the far side of Kings Bluff. Beyond King's Bluff the trail returns through woods to the trailhead.

From I-40 near Russellville, take AR 7 north to Pelsor, AR and Sand Gap. From Pelsor, turn right on AR 16 east. Follow AR 16 east for 6 miles to the signed right turn to the scenic area.
