Trail Description

Mud Trail is located between Caribou Trail and Haystack Notch Trail on the east side of SR 113, south of US 2. The trail travels into the beautiful designated wilderness of Caribou-Speckled Mountain. For much of the hike, the path parallels Mud Brook. The trail starts off on a gradual ascent then once leaving the brook's side, its ascends sharply up to Caribou Summit to reach a height of 2,850 feet. The trail descends to reach its terminus at Caribou Trail. By turning left (west) onto Caribou Trail, you can make a nice circuit hike which takes you past the beautiful Kees Falls then back to SR 113 about 1 mile north of the Mud Brook Trailhead.

Directions: From Bethel, ME, Travel west on US 2 approximately 9 - 10 miles, turn south onto SR 113. Travel over the two small bridges of Evans Brook. The trailhead may be found about 5 miles down the road on the left (east).

Mud Brook Trail leads to the beautiful summit of Caribou Mountain.
