Trail Description

Hickory Run Trail starts along SR 534 and descends into a field where the National Park Service built a picnic area and parking lot in the 1930's. Parts of the curbing can still be seen amongst the wildflowers. This is one of the better places in the park to see butterflies. After passing the field, look to the left for foundations from the village of Hickory Run dating back to the early 1800's. In years following, a brick mill was established along the trail and sometimes these bricks with Hickory run printed on them are exposed. The trail follows and finally crosses Hickory Run Stream. The stream can be anywhere from 1 - 4 feet deep at times. After crossing the stream, the trail continues along on the other side of Hickory Run and ends at the intersection of Pine Hill and Fireline Trails. Immediately after crossing the stream, look for the junction of Sand Spring Trail on the left-hand side. Like Sand Spring Trail, the latter half of Hickory Run Trail meanders about the old railroad bed. Skyline Trail can be accessed from Hickory Run Trail.

Directions: From White Haven, PA, Take Interstate 80 to Exit 41. Drive east on PA 534 for 6 miles to reach the park. Parking is available by the park office or along SR 534 near the trailhead, which is just prior to the park office.

Hickory Run Trail offers a beautiful hike with a bit of history.
