This wide, well-maintained trail is actually a historic wagon road that provides access to settlements along the Clearwater River. Trail #740 connects with other trails that go to the three falls that comprise Elk Creek Falls. This trail, rated easy, with gentle elevation changes, passes by an old schoolhouse site and several species of old-growth timber. The recreation area is closed to all motorized vehicles.

Trail is accessed between Boville and Elk River on Highway 8 on Road #1452. Trailhead originates at the developed parking site.
