Description

The trail runs from Behm Canal to Lower Checats Lake, the entire length of Checats Creek. The stream has a strong salmon run in August thus providing an excellent opportunity to watch salmon spawning. Low visitor use results in a very serene setting.

Directions

The Tongass is one of only two national forests in the country you can't drive to.

But don't panic. You can still reach it by car if you want; it just takes a little more planning. You can drive to Bellingham, Washington; Prince Rupert, BC Canada.

Highlights

Checats Cove is a true wilderness trail that offers numerous discoveries for the amateur explorer.
