The Chain of Lakes Nature Trail is a 1-mile loop trail offering sights of longleaf pine and huge magnolias with an understory dotted with wildflowers. Other habitats along the short trail include oxbows which were once part of the much larger riverbed that eventually changed course. This is oftentimes a good spot to see statuesque herons fishing along the shallows.
The Chain of Lakes Nature Trail is a good trail to hike in combination with other park recreations. Campers, picnickers, swimmers and canoeists all find this short trail and easy addition to the day's adventure.
