Caribou Trail is an excursion into the Caribou-Speckled Mountain Wilderness area traveling past several streams and through a forested passage between Gammon and Caribou Mountains. The trail actually ends on Bog Road which is out of the wilderness area, however, most people head right on Mud Trail about 3 miles into the hike. Mud Trail carries the visitor up to the summit of Caribou Mountain. Kees Falls, a beautiful 25 foot waterfall, is found between SR 113 and the turnoff to Mud Trail.
Directions: From Bethel, ME, Travel west on US 2 approximately 9 - 10 miles, turn south onto SR 113. Travel over the two small bridges of Evans Brook and look for the trailhead on the left side of the road. It is approximately 4 -5 miles from US 2.
Caribou Trail provides access to Mud Trail which takes the visitor to the summit of Caribou Mountain, 2,850 feet.
