Its paved surface, few hills, and well-marked automobile crossings make it ideal for cyclists, and the trail accommodates horseback riding, walkers, and runners. Pine woods, salt marshes, cranberry bogs and freshwater ponds are some of the terrains encountered on the trail, and Nickerson State Park (official trailhead) which is close to the half-way point, provides camping, hiking and biking trails, swimming, fishing and boating.
