The trail leaves the Bickford Brook Trail at 0.6 mile. It crosses Bickford Brook and ascends rapidly. The trail passes over ledges, through patches of woods and intersects with the Bickford Brook Trail at 3.6 miles. The summit is .5 mile from this point. The surrounding valleys and distant mountain ranges can be seen for miles from Speckled Mountain. Blueberry Ridge offers excellent views of Cold River Valley and the mountains and ponds to the south.
Directions: From North Fryeburg, ME, Travel north on SR 113 approximately 15 miles to historic Brickett Place. Travel past Cold River Campground and Basin Recreational Areas. Go 2/10 mile and turn right at the Brickett Place. Parking is available at the Bickford Brook trailhead. Begin on Bickford Brook Trail and hike about .7 mile.
The climb is quite steep with many open ledges. Most hikers prefer to climb the Bickford Brook Trail and descend the Blueberry Ridge Trail.
