Blackrock Trail meanders through a maritime hammock of wax myrtle and hollies before reaching wind swept live oaks graced with an understory of beautiful saw palmettos. As you emerge onto a low bluff delivering you to the shores of Nassau Sound, notice how encroaching live oaks collapsed onto the sand creating what is called "boneyard beach." Children love to romp among the sun-bleached sculptures making a wonderful photo opportunity for photographers. Park archaeologists who have uncovered fossilized woolly mammoth bones have verified a literal definition of this nickname. This one of a kind beach has black, rock-like outcroppings with unusual bluffs and silvered fallen trees making this a beautiful hike enjoyed by thousands each year.
