The Blackberry Island Trail begins from the small parking lot associated with the park's picnic area. Hikers will begin their 4.5-mile round-trip hike by walking south along the lagoon and rising to Ft. Lorami-Swanders Road. Turning eastward (left) and crossing the bridge, leads you to an old service road. Take the old and oftentimes overgrown road into the field hiking to the north end of the field where you'll turn right onto a wide grassy path. This will eventually carry you to the small footbridge leading to Blackberry Island. Once you step onto the island, you may hike either way ending up back at this point. Retrace your steps back to the picnic parking lot.
Cross-country skiing is permitted in winter.
Directions: From Sidney, OH, Take Interstate 75 to Exit 93. Take State Route 29 northwest for 4 miles. Turn left (west) onto Ft. Loramie-Swanders Road. Take it about 7 miles. Turn right onto SR 362, then another immediate right into the park's picnic area. Begin hiking south near the lagoon.
Good bird watching opportunities afforded on the 4.5-mile hike. Unusual plant life for this part of country.
