Rating:
  • The last 16 miles of the trail, from Crystal Lake to Thompsonville, are frequently unpaved. A mountain bike might be preferable to a road bike on these segments.

Description

Twenty-two miles from Frankfort to Elberta, the Betsie Valley Trail is a hiker- and biker-friendly trail built on the former Ann Arbor Railroad. Asphalt sections of the path are great for rollerblading; the 13-mile stretch from Beulah to Thompsonville is open to snowmobiles December through March.
