Beehunter Trail is a 6.5 mile loop trail which travels through a mixed forest of hemlock, ash, maple and black cherry. A steep ascension must be conquered in the early stages of the trek, topping out at 3.5 miles after a 700-foot climb. You'll want to note that at approximately 2 miles into the hike, there is a creek crossing which can prove challenging during times of high water. The trail follows the ridges of the Beehunter Creek which is laced with beautiful fern, moss-carpeted rocks and several areas drenched with clusters of July blooming red elderberry. The bushes produce large assemblages of red berries which are an important food source for many of the park's game and song birds. A little beyond the 4 mile point, the trail descends below the hills ridges, proceeding through a grove of hemlock reaching a trail junction with an old forest road. Descend left, crossing over another old forest road where the path opens to a large meadow. Look for the trail marker and descend right along the overgrown forest road. You'll come upon restrooms where you'll want to stay left. Cross the Beehunter Creek once more and follow the path back to Beehunter Picnic Area.

Directions: From Salamanca, NY, Take SR 17 to Exit 19 which is 7 miles west of Salamanca. Take ASP 2 south to ASP 2A found at the southern end of Red House Lake. The trailhead is located west of Beehunter Picnic Area.
