Bear Trail travels the south side of Buttermilk Creek and connects with the Gorge-Rim Trail. The main feature of Bear Trail is the 40-foot Pinnacle Rock which stands alone encircled with a smattering of native ferns. The trek is through a mixed deciduous forest laced with hemlock and a beautiful fern and wildflower understory. At the southern end of the trail is the park road which terminates at a picnic area adjacent to Treman Lake and the Treman Lake Loop Trail.
Directions: From Ithaca, NY, Travel 6 miles south along SR 13 to the park. Hike either side of the Gorge-Rim Loop to reach the intersection of the southbound traveling Bear Trail. Travel north (left) on West King Road to a parking area located just over the bridge crossing Buttermilk Creek. Pinnacle Rock is north of West King Road.
