Trail Description

Bear Trail travels the south side of Buttermilk Creek and connects with the Gorge-Rim Trail. The main feature of Bear Trail is the 40-foot Pinnacle Rock which stands alone encircled with a smattering of native ferns. The trek is through a mixed deciduous forest laced with hemlock and a beautiful fern and wildflower understory. At the southern end of the trail is the park road which terminates at a picnic area adjacent to Treman Lake and the Treman Lake Loop Trail.

Directions: From Ithaca, NY, Travel 6 miles south along SR 13 to the park. Hike either side of the Gorge-Rim Loop to reach the intersection of the southbound traveling Bear Trail. Alternatively, travel from SR 13, south on Sandbank Road until it T's with West King Road. Travel north (left) on West King Road to a parking area located just over the bridge crossing Buttermilk Creek. Pinnacle Rock is north of West King Road.

Bear Trail is used as a connector between the Gorge-Rim Loop and Treman Lake Loop. Sights of interest include Pinnacle Rock.
