The access trail leads from the ferry dock over to the group campsites, the beach trail and the swimming area. Before Hurricane Fran, there were picnic tables and a shelter that will most likely be built again. This is an easy path a little less than a mile long.
Directions: From Swansboro, NC, The mainland portion of Hammocks Beach State Park is located in Onslow County between Jacksonville and Morehead City. From Swansboro, SR 1511 (Hammocks Beach Road) leads to the park entrance adjacent to Queens Creek. From here, the passenger ferry departs for Bear Island. The island is also accessible by private boat, marine taxi service or by canoeing the park designated canoe trail / route. Travel to the ferry dock, trail begins there.
