Four separate loops comprise the Bay View Hiking Trail where spectacular Lake Michigan views are offered via a north and south trailhead. Encompassing several ecosystems that include sand dunes, mature forests, and open meadow, hikers are afforded the opportunity to view spectacular scenery that includes South and North Manitou Islands, Manitou Shoals, South Fox Island, and Pyramid Point. The trail is considered moderately difficult due to the hilly terrain and trudging of sandy soil. Good-gripping footwear is recommended. Pick up a trail map at the visitor center to coordinate your loop route(s) with your ability, desire or time constraint. In winter, trails are open for cross-country skiing.
Directions: From Glen Arbor, MI, Homestead Trailhead: Travel north about 2 miles on M-22 to Homestead Resort. Proceed just beyond the resort to find the trailhead on the right side of the road.
These are a small series of hiking trails enabling users to enjoy a 1 mile hike or up to 9 miles of pathway.
