This trail starts near a sign marked "Public Access to Mud Lake". The trail goes by Mud Lake then follows the ridge climbing gradually until Baldy Knoll is reached. By travelling cross-country it is not difficult to go down into either the North or Middle Forks of Game Creek creating a long but scenic loop hike or horse ride if you shuttle vehicles.
