Trail Description

The Art Loeb Trail is a 32 mile hike with overlapping trails offering a number of access locations. The trail is broken into several sections with the trail beginning just south of the Pisgah Ranger Station located on US 276 and terminating in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area just south of Little East Fork Road at the Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp.

Section 1: South of Pisgah Ranger Station to Shuck Ridge. It is a 12.3 mile foot path, blazed in white and considered difficult. Deep Gap Shelter located near end of section.

A spur trail at Butter Gap Ridge (located about midway) provides a shelter off this .7 mile loop trail which is suitable for both foot and bike travel. No blaze.

Section 2: Shuck Ridge to Black Balsam Knob. It is a 7.2 mile foot path, blazed in white and considered difficult.

Section 3: Black Balsam Knob to Deep Gap. It is a 6.8 difficult foot path blazed in white.

Section 4: Deep Gap to Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp is 3.8 miles and considered difficult. The foot path is blaze-white.

A second spur is located just above the Blue Ridge Parkway and Forest Road 616. It travels west to a parking area where Investors Gap Trail may be accessed. This path is considered difficult and is .6 mile long. No blaze.

Directions: From Brevard, NC, Travel US 276 northwest for approximately 1.5 miles to the Davidson River Recreation Area. Trail begins just south along creek.

The Art Loeb Trail bisects the Pisgah Ranger District traveling through a variety of terrain offering wonderful woodland sights.
