Click here to edit!Motorized vehicles are not allowed. Dogs must be on leash. Trails are closed during heavy snow winters to offer wildlife habitat for deer and elk.
White arrows on trail markers indicate hiking/horseback routes; blue arrows show mountain bik routes. The left branch of the trail system is an old two-track that climbs up the middle of the mountain to the north rim, where a section of trail connects over to a trail on the east side.
Turn west off Main Ave. in Durango onto 32nd St. Turn north on W. 4th Ave. Go a couple of blocks and turn right where the road appears to end at the "one-way, no-enter" sign. Continue about a block to the trailhead parking area.
HighlightsThe Animas City Mountain Trail winds through pinyon, juniper, and ponderosa pine stands with views of Hidden Valley, Animas Valley and West Needles. The trail follows switchbacks up to a saddle overlooking town, then continues north up the titled mesa.
