General Information: This trail climbs through second growth lodge pole forest, sub alpine forest and meadows before traversing the open ridge of Horseshoe Mountain. The trail then drops into Horseshoe Basin to meet Boundary Trail #533.
Highlights: Though the approach is slightly longer, this is an easier trailhead to reach for access to the Horseshoe Basin area. The ridge offers an outstanding overview of the entire basin. There are many miles of ridge walking and roaming. Nearby Smith Lake has rainbow and Cutthroat Trout. By midsummer water may be difficult to find on the last half of the trail. The trail was recently rerouted near Deer Park and may be difficult to follow; watch for signs.
Directions: From Tonasket, Take Okanogan County road # 9437 (HWY. 7) north for 6 miles to Okanogan County road #9425. Take Okanogan County road #9425 and travel for 11 miles to Loomis. From Loomis continue on Okanogan County road #9425 for 2 miles to County road #4066. Take County road #4066 connect with the Forest Service road #39 (Toats Coulee) for 9 miles to Department of Natural Resources road T-1000, follow this road for 5 miles to Fourteen Mile trailhead.
The Albert Camp offers scenic views of the east through lodgepole pine, trail then opens at the top of Horseshoe Mountain and then to Horseshoe Basin.
