Trail Description

Located within the Abilene State Park, this one mile nature trail allows walkers to have a 'snap shot' experience of the area's natural beauty. Abilene is in a semiarid region of short prairie grass, brush land, and wooded stream valleys of mesquite, juniper, cedar, native pecan, elm, live oaks, hack berry, Texas red oak, red bud, and various other plants, and wildflowers. Creatures living in the area include white-tailed deer, raccoon, armadillo, fox, squirrel, cottontail rabbit, and a large variety of birds including Mississippi kite, roadrunner, cardinal, hummingbird, mockingbird, and many others. Popular fish include bass, crappie, catfish, and perch.

Directions: From Abilene, TX, Travel 16 miles southwest through Buffalo Gap, on FM 89, then on Park Road 32 to the park entrance.
