Trail Description

The Fortynine Palms Oasis Trail begins from Canyon Road four miles west of Twentynine Palms. From the trailhead this route leads one and a half miles ascending slightly then descending into Fortynine Palms Canyon. The oasis, and trail terminus, lies at a confluence in the canyon. The site is lush with stands of fan palms and pools of water. The flora surrounding this route and destination is very fragile, so walk carefully through this terrain.

Directions: From Oasis Visitor Center, Follow Highway 62 westward 4 miles to Canyon Road. Turn left on to Canyon Road and follow it to the trailhead.

This trail leads one and a half miles into Fortynine Palms Canyon. An oasis lies at the terminus of the route.

Howdy,

I hiked this last week (Dec 27, 2009) and would say that your difficulty rating of 5/5 is a bit high.  I'd give this a 2-3 in difficulty compared to other hikes I've been on (Ice house, Baldy, Ontario Peak).  I wore sneakers, which slipped a bit, but otherwise no problem.

 Thanks for the opportunity.

Joe Mc
